Elwood "Skip" Rische III Obituary

Elwood B. "Skip" Rische III, 70, of San Antonio, passed away on July 15th, 2023 after a brief illness.

Skip was born on July 15th, 1953 to Bud and Hilda Rische in San Antonio, Texas. After he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1971, he went on to study Radio, Television, and Film at Texas A&I. After his studies, Skip joined the United States Navy and his first station was in Misawa, Japan.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Skip joined the State Department, which kick started a long career as a Foreign Service Communications Officer. During his travels, Skip was stationed in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Brussels, Belgium; The Hague, Netherlands; Lima, Peru; Nuevo Laredo, Mexico; Nassau, The Bahamas; Tegucigalpa, Honduras; Quito, Ecuador; and Mexico City, Mexico.

It was in Lima, Peru where Skip met Gayl Turner. They went on to have two children, Elizabeth "Liz" Rische and Elwood B. "Ben" Rische IV.

At 50 years old, Skip retired in Spring Branch, Texas, but continued WAE temporary duty assignments every summer in Denmark, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Moldova, and Yemen.

Skip was predeceased by his parents Elwood B. "Bud" Rische Jr. and Hilda Rische. He is survived by his children, Liz and Ben, and his younger brother, James Rische.

Funeral services will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Monday, July 24th 2023 at 2:15 pm.
